ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - As the NFL prepared for the possibility of a Kansas City Chiefs three-peat over the weekend, Dimond-West was busy celebrating number four.

The black and gold took down Fairbanks 3-2 on Saturday, closing out a perfect season with a 41-0 record and its fourth state title in as many years.

“It’s incredible,” Dimond-West head coach Brian Gross said. “They really stayed with it today.”

After how the game began, that was certainly necessary.

In just under 10 minutes, it looked like Dimond-West would be heading home in defeat. The first period opened with a pair of Fairbanks goals from Riley Griffeth.

Hailey Murray was able to get one on the board shortly after, leaving Dimond-West with a 2-1 hole to dig out of the rest of the way.

“I told them out of the timeout, you know one of the hallmarks of a championship team is being able to come from behind,” Gross said. “You’re not always going to be in the lead, you’ve gotta be able to battle back.”

After a scoreless second period, things opened up in the third.

With under seven minutes on the clock, Molly Sillers flicked a pass from Sienna Kowal off her stick, watching briefly as the puck fluttered to the back of the net.

“I just started screaming ... I saw it go in and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I can’t believe that just happened,‘” Sillers said.

Tied at 2-2, Avery Keim found the same success a few moments later, slapping a solo shot into the bottom left corner with under two minutes to go.

“We just did what we had to do, and it worked out in the end,” Keim said.

The win is Keim’s second and Siller’s first championship with the Dimond-West program. The pair will return next season with an opportunity to defend the title next season.
