How to download the Alaska’s News Source streaming apps
Missed our most recent newscast? Only caught part of a story? Don’t worry. With the Alaska’s News Source streaming app, our newscasts are accessible 24/7, making it possible for you to stay caught up with statewide news, weather, and sports any time of day.
With the Alaska’s News Source streaming app ― now available on Apple TV, Roku, and Amazon Fire TV ― you can livestream every single Alaska’s News Source newscast for free, without a cable subscription.
You can also watch on-demand newscasts, news clips, weather forecasts, sports reports and our special series ― all at the push of a button, on your time, whenever you’re ready.
The first thing you will need to do is determine which streaming device you have. The most common are Roku (either a plug-in or SmartTV), Apple TV, or Amazon Fire. In all cases, your television or device must be connected to the Internet. Please review the videos below for detailed download instructions for Amazon Fire, Apple TV, and Roku TVs/devices.
Amazon Fire
- Turn the TV on.
- Open your Fire TV.
- Using the circle pad in the middle of the remote, click over to the Magnifying glass at the bottom of the screen.
- In the search bar, click the center of circle and a keyboard will appear.
- Using the circle pad, type in Alaska’s News Source.
- When it appears, you can click down to Alaska’s News Source and click the center of the circle.
- Click down to where is says “apps and games.” Alaska’s News Source should be the first choice. Click on the Alaska’s News Source tile.
- “Get App” should be highlighted. Click the center of the circle to start downloading and installing.
- Click Open App to begin watching.
- The Alaska’s News Source app will open to the Live screen. The columns on the right are what’s available live (i.e., 24/7 Alaska Weather, Live News Casts, Local News Live, etc.). Click on which one you want and it will move to the big box in the center and become full screen.
- At the bottom of the screen, you’ll find different categories to watch, including individual news stories, the latest weather forecast and previous newscasts. Arrow down and click OK to make your choice.
- The next time you turn on your TV, use the circle pad to click down to find the Alaska’s News Source Tile in the recently used apps.
- Enjoy the latest news, sports and weather from Alaska’s News Source.
Apple TV
- Turn the TV on.
- Find the App Store Icon (blue tile with the A symbol)
- Using your remote, click over to the magnifying glass/search bar in the top right corner.
- Using your remote, type in Alaska’s News Source.
- When it appears, you can click down to Alaska’s News Source and hit the center of the pad to enter.
- “Get” should be highlighted. Click the center of the circle to start downloading and installing.
- Click Open to begin watching.
- The Alaska’s News Source app will open to the Live screen. The columns on the right are what’s available live (i.e., 24/7 Alaska Weather, Live News Casts, Local News Live, etc.). Click on which one you want and it will move to the big box in the center and become full screen.
- At the bottom of the screen, you’ll find different categories to watch, including individual news stories, the latest weather forecast and previous newscasts. Arrow down and click OK to make your choice.
- The next time you turn on your Apple TV, use the circle pad to click down to find the Alaska’s News Source Tile on your main menu screen.
- Click to enjoy the latest news, sports and weather from Alaska’s News Source.
Roku Devices/Televisions
- Turn the TV on.
- Using the Arrow buttons on your remote, click one space to the right.
- Using the Up Arrow, click up until you find “Add Apps”.
- Hit OK on the Remote Control.
- Using the Down Arrow, click down until you find “recommended apps” and the Search tile. Hit OK
- Using the Arrow buttons, type Alaska’s News Source in the search bar. It usually comes up before you finish typing. When it does, you can arrow over to the right to the Alaska’s News Source tile and click OK.
- A new screen pops up. “Add App” should be highlighted so click “OK”.
- If you have PIN on your device, use the Arrow buttons to type that in and hit Add App.
- You’ll be taken back to the previous screen where you’ll hit “Add App” again.
- The Alaska’s News Source app will open to the Live screen. The columns on the right are what’s available live (i.e., 24/7 Alaska Weather, Live News Casts, Local News Live, etc.). Click on which one you want and it will move to the big box in the center and become full screen.
- At the bottom of the screen, you’ll find different categories to watch, including individual news stories, the latest weather forecast and previous newscasts. Arrow down and click OK to make your choice.
- The next time you turn on your TV, again scroll to the right and up to find the Alaska’s News Source Tile and click OK.
- Enjoy the latest news, sports and weather from Alaska’s News Source.
