Dittrich brothers help lead West Anchorage to state hockey title
WASILLA, Alaska (KTUU) - In their final game playing together in the Orange and Black, brothers Paul and Joey Dittrich went out on top.
The West Anchorage duo combined for three points in the state final on Saturday at the Menard Center in Wasilla, helping the Eagles defeat the West Valley Wolfpack 3-0 to repeat as state champions.
“It’s just an unreal feeling,” Paul Dittrich said, standing next to his brother, Joey. “To do it again with this group of boys is a surreal feeling.”
Both brothers were named to the 2025 ASAA All-Tournament team.
With two zeros still on the scoreboard in the first period, Paul slung the puck through a pair of Wolfpack defenders, finding Joey’s stick and then the back of the net.
“I saw him slide back door, his stick lifted a little bit,” Paul said. “I just slid it right through the little triangle and he put it in.”
“Yeah, it was just a great pass, back door tap in,” Joey said.
Joey also scored the empty netter that sealed the game for the Eagles.
While Paul will graduate in the spring, Joey has one more season in front of him, giving him the chance to finish his prep career with four straight state title appearances.
“It was really nice to watch them grow — they’re great kids, superb kids, good student-athletes,” Eagles coach Rob Larkey said. “They’re just fun to coach. They always have a smile on their face, they’re always positive. It makes my job easy.”
