ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - As part of the annual Big C Relays, one of the state’s most coveted speed titles is featured as part of Alaska’s biggest track and field meet.

This year, a pair of new faces earned the title of the “Fastest Alaskans.”

Dimond’s Sarah Dittman and Soldotna’s Tyce Escott won the girls and boys 100-meter final, respectively, on Saturday, results that put the pair into the spotlight as the 2025 season gets going.

For Dittman, her final time of 12.61 seconds was just enough to beat out 2024 winner Jihsana Williams from Chugiak, a victory she says came from a last-minute decision.

“It feels really good,” Dittman said. “I do [multi-day workouts], so the 100 isn’t really one of my events, but I really wanted to try it this meet at least. So, my coach let me do it.”

“She’s put in the work,” Lynx head coach Scott Campbell said. “She deserves everything she gets because she puts in the time. [She’s] just a great athlete, great person.”

Also running in a tight race, Escott secured the boys crown over West Anchorage’s Beckett Stolp. The junior sprinter’s final time of 11.15 seconds beat out his closest competitor by just 5 milliseconds.

“I didn’t expect to win at all. I’m just glad I could go and do my best,” Escott said.

Escott not only shattered his original PR, but the Soldotna record books as well. Escott’s win was the first for a Star at the Big C Relays in program history.

“To win that at this track meet, first one in Soldotna school history. First one to run 11.0 in 30 years at Soldotna High School,” Stars head coach Phil Leck said. “It’s really cool stuff.”
