ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - The Mobile Weather Lab was on the road this week, stopping at College Gate Elementary School’s annual STEM Night.

From improving the safety of air travel, to making energy out of potatoes, and finding out which cereal gets the soggiest the fastest, the sixth graders at College Gate are using science to help tackle some tough problems.

Chief Meteorologist Melissa Frey joined their science fair, during which the students presented their research and learned more about science, technology, engineering and math from professionals from around the community.

Next week, Melissa takes us to Goldenview Middle School, where the students are working hard to ensure their community is well-informed through video production.
