ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - As historic snow blanketed the south from Texas to the Carolinas, it’s nowhere to be seen in Anchorage, Alaska.

As of January 22nd, more snow has fallen in 2025 across many southern states than in Anchorage, where only 3.8″ has been recorded since December 1st.

While Alaskans are used to all the fun, and the few headaches that snow can bring, it’s not familiar to many along the Gulf Coast.

Chief Meteorologist Melissa Frey talked with Houston Meteorologist Justin Stapleton about the winter forecast leading up to the storm, the science behind it, and how the snow impacted the city, including thousands who had never seen snow before.

Listen to the full conversation between Frey and Stapleton on our In-Depth Alaska Podcast.
