Alaska Railroad cancels weekend train service due to inclement weather
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Weather conditions in Southcentral Alaska have caused some travelers along Alaska’s railroad system to have to reschedule their plans.
On Saturday, Alaska Railroad posted to their Facebook page saying trains services have been canceled for Jan. 25 and 26 due to “extreme conditions.”
Meghan Clemens, the Alaska Railroad director of external affairs, said the Aurora Winter Train, which connects Anchorage and Fairbanks, had one round trip from Anchorage to Talkeetna Saturday morning, but there was heavy snow and downed trees north of the town.
She said the railroad is watching and responding to the weather conditions, but does not expect the service interruption to continue after the weather has cleared.
The company said it will be issuing refunds over the next two weeks for the canceled trips.
