Hundreds of potholes filled on Anchorage roads
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Anchorage crews have been working around the clock since Friday amid a wild winter warmup, according to Anchorage Street Maintenance Director Paul VanLandingham.
But while VanLandingham said they anticipated dealing with floods, crews were instead dealing with potholes.
“Sixty-four requests for potholes [were called in] over the weekend, in which 33 of them were called in as tire poppers,” VanLandingham said. “And once we were done, the crews had filled over 211 potholes over the weekend.”
The rain Anchorage received over the weekend was not as much as expected and city crews had fewer flood calls than anticipated, but VanLandingham said the water did cause problems with the roads that had thawed because of the unseasonably warm temperatures.
“Anywhere there was a crack in the pavement, that water found its way in there and then the traffic — just the hydrology of it all ... the potholes came a calling,” he said.
