FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTUU/KTVF) - Golden Heart Waste Management will play a pivotal role in this year’s Golden Heart Clean Up Day event on Saturday.

According to GHWM, individuals, families, schools, businesses, and civic groups will be picking up trash across the Fairbanks North Star Borough. GHWM is also organizing assistance from Heavy Haulers to pick up the bags along the roadway.

Target locations will include area highways, which GHWM Project Manager Paul Robinson said are parts of the city that typically see the most trash.

“The Johansen, Mitchell, Richardson,” he said, “those are always the highest flow.”

Robinson said it’s important to keep the city clean, not only for residents but also for incoming tourists.

“It’s kind of like when you have friends coming over,” Robinson said. “We would be proud, not have trash laying around.”

Robinson said the main goal is to keep the community clean, and he appreciates citizens coming together for the event.

Golden Heart Clean Up Day is Saturday, May 10. You can register and learn more by heading over to the Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce website.
