Lead paint cited in stop work notice posted to Anchorage’s Inlet View Tower apartment building
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Nearly one month after a city inspector issued a stop work notice, citing a company’s improper lead-based paint handling at the apartment complex owned by state Attorney General Treg Taylor and his wife Jodi Taylor, the paperwork remains posted on the door of Anchorage’s Inlet View Tower apartment building.
Chief of Inspections Scott Campbell‘s notice, dated July 12, orders a complete stop to all Inlet View Tower work, stating company JET PRO did not have a proper state license to perform the scope of work by water blasting lead-based paint off the east side of the nearly 70-year-old building.
Inlet View Tower resident Jonathan Wyrick said he originally became suspicious of the issue when the building was being painted and reached out to Campbell at the municipality’s Development Service’s department about his potential lead paint exposure concerns.
“They were all very interested instantly,” Wyrick said. “They said they wanted to know everything. They wanted to know the ins and outs of what’s going on.
“I’m very concerned — for longterm — what can happen to lead,” Wyrick added.
Campbell confirmed to Alaska’s News Source’s investigative team that shortly after Wyrick contacted him, the stop work notice was posted, and said the case has been turned over to the Environmental Protection Agency.
An EPA spokesperson confirmed Friday that the city’s report had been received and agency employees are now considering the next steps.
Alaska’s News Source contacted the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Alaska Occupational And Health (AKOSH,) and building management requesting comment, but had not received a response as of publication.
The Taylors are listed as having taken over ownership of the former Anchorage hotel last year. Alaska’s News Source’s investigative team requested comment but had not yet heard back as of publication.
