Ballots for Anchorage Municipal Election will soon go in the mail
Important dates to keep in mind
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Ballots for the April 1 Anchorage Municipal Election will be mailed to more than 200,000 registered Anchorage voters on March 11, according to MOA Elections Administrator William Northrop who said people should be on the lookout for them.
“If you don’t, by chance, receive a ballot package in the mail by the 18th of March, then you are going to want to reach out to the Election Center to get a replacement ballot to vote,” Northrop said. “Since we have multiple ways people can vote in this year’s election.”
Northrop said ballot drop boxes, which will also go up on March 11, are the most popular way to return ballots. But people can also vote by mail, email, or in person closer to the date when Vote Centers open on March 25.
“If you want to vote temporary address if you are going to be out of state, if you want to vote by email, if you want to vote by fax, all you have to do is either call the Election Center (907-243-VOTE) or send us an email, so we can send that application out to you so you can fill it out and you can send it back to us,” he said.
Another date to be particularly mindful of is Sunday, March 2, which is the deadline to register to vote or update voter information with the state. The easiest way to do that, Northrop said, is online.
Those who are interested in tracking their ballot can also sign up online for BallotTrax, which will report the entire process including when it was mailed, arrives at the Election Center, and when the ballot is successfully scanned into the system.
Northrop said people who have questions about what happens to their ballot can also visit the Election Center.
“I would invite any member of the public to just come down to the Election Center and see what we do,” he said.
He said every part of the process is open to the public including election night.
The Ship Creek Election Center is located at 619 E Ship Creek Avenue Anchorage, 99501.
