ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - The Anchorage Chamber of Commerce recognized on Monday the many business partnership programs that support local schools and that connect with students for their outstanding involvement in its annual Spirit of Tomorrow Awards ceremony.

The awards began in 1996 with 190 partnerships, and now, there are more than 400. Organizers say these partnerships allow local businesses to help students as they plan for their futures.

“Without the partnerships, the schools, the kids wouldn’t be ready for graduation, they wouldn’t have the opportunities to figure out what they want to do in life,” School Business Partnerships board member Marla Thompson said. ”If they want to go to college, if they want to go into the trades, so we help promote the different businesses and the schools in connecting.”
