TALKEETNA, Alaska (KTUU) - The Historic Fairview Inn has been in Talkeetna for 100 years!

Built to house railroad workers and travelers, the century-old inn now serves as the bar and lodging for climbers coming and going from Denali and tourists who flow through the town in the summer, much like the Big Susitna River.

With only eight rooms, it’s a bucket-list item that has a long waiting list.

Co-owner Henrik Wessel loved the place so much, he and his partners bought it two years ago. He gave Alaska’s News Source’s Roadtrippin’ team a tour from bottom to top!

The Historic Fairview Inn has been completely renovated inside and out, and even survived a taco stand blast last year that took out several of the inn’s bedroom windows! The tallest building in Talkeetna also holds the windsock for the local airport, and no other building can ever be taller than the Fairview Inn.

Filled with original artwork and climber memorabilia, the Historic Fairview Inn is definitely a local treasure and a destination station for first-timers and regulars alike. There’s even a United States Presidential connection that is a bit macabre!

Enjoy the tour!
