GLACIER VIEW, Alaska (KTUU) - A Southcentral Alaska campsite is making one of Alaska’s most accessible glaciers also one of the most enjoyable.

Alpenglow Luxury Camping, a locally-owned “glamping” business a short drive from Palmer, features queen and twin beds in spacious tents, some of which look out to Matanuska Glacier.

“Glacier view is amazing,” Alpenglow Luxury Camping owner Mandy Wray said. “I mean, I step out of my door every day [and] love it.”

Beginning with a single canvas tent in 2016, Wray now rents out seven tents, hoping to provide a peaceful and tranquil experience for all guests.

“Once they spend the night here, they have access to our hot tub, we cook breakfast for them in the morning, they can hang out in this great space and enjoy the mountains,” Wray said.

With each tent comes a private deck with a chair, and it’s just a short walk to a common area where there’s a fire pit, hot tub, shower and toilets.

Wray initially came to the Matanuska Valley as a guide, and after falling in love with staying in the area, wanted to share the same experience with others.

“I really just enjoy providing a product where people get to come and enjoy my backyard,” she said.

Several perks come with a stay at the camp, according to Wray, as it’s a comfortable way to explore Alaska as glampers don’t have to pack up and bring everything with them.

“You can literally show up with your family and a change of clothes and still have that camping experience,” Wray said.

Wray offers a 15% discount on all reservations for two or more consecutive nights. There’s also an Alaskan discount for those staying in luxury tents.

Alpenglow also offers the opportunity for glamping on a glacier in which guests fly to a remote glacier camp to stay the night.
