Roadtrippin’ 2024: Riding the rails on the historic Alaska Railroad to Whittier
WHITTIER, Alaska (KTUU) - For more than 100 years, the railroad has been a fixture in Alaska, carrying passengers to some of the most scenic places in the state.
In this Roadtrippin’ adventure, our crew traveled from Anchorage to Whittier by rail.
The trip included many first-time passengers from all over the world, but all were excited to travel 35 miles on the edge of the sparkling Turnagain arm from Anchorage to Portage, then through the historic Anton Anderson memorial tunnel to Whittier.
Along the way, there were nonstop views of the snowy Chugach and Kenai Mountain peaks, water, and wildlife.
For some, it’s a roundtrip; for others, it’s a day of exploring, and for many, their cruise ship was awaiting them at the port in Whittier for their next Alaskan adventure.
