ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - This time of year can feel especially overwhelming, and if you’re ending each day mentally drained with little to show for it, your brain might be craving a dopamine boost.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta, host of the Chasing Life podcast, suggests creating a “dopamenu,” a personalized list of activities that help release dopamine, the brain chemical responsible for focus, motivation, and reward.

“It’s a personalized list of activities that can bring you relaxation, relief, and reward,” Gupta explained. “If you can trigger your brain and access that dopamine, it can help you focus.”

To build your own dopamenu, Gupta recommends jotting down small, enjoyable activities you can turn to throughout the day before burnout sets in. The key is to keep it simple, fun, and tailored to you. A well-designed dopamenu can be just the mental refresh your brain needs to power through.
