ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Two 12-foot, red cedar totem poles have stood in front of the Nesbett Courthouse in Anchorage since 1997.
Their imagery represents the story of the balance of justice. Tlingit carver Tommy Joseph from Sitka was brought in to clean, treat, and repair any weather damage.
One pole represents Raven stealing the moon and the stars. The second pole is Eagle and the Giant Clam.
Joseph is a totem pole carver, but he isn’t the original carver of the poles. He is working as a wood conservator to ensure the poles continue standing for years to come.
