ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Nenana’s Emily Robinson became the first musher in Jr. Iditarod history to win the race four times when she reached the Tolsona Lake finish line with nine dogs in harness Sunday morning.

The 150-mile race patterning the famed Iditarod has been offered to junior mushers ages 14-17 since 1977. Throughout its history, seven mushers had won the race multiple times before Robinson, with Tim Osmar as the only musher to three-peat from 1982-84. No musher had been able to win the race in all four years of eligibility before Robinson from 2022-25.

In 2022, Robinson won the Jr. Iditarod as a rookie by just six seconds, separating herself from the pack each year following.

In 2023, she improved the gap to 29 minutes, before having her best season yet on behind the sled in 2024. She began the year with a surprise Knik 200 victory over a field of Iditarod mushers at just 16 years old before winning her third straight Jr. Iditarod just weeks later.

Robinson has doubled down on her success this season, winning the Knik 100 in December and the Knik 200 in January before making history in the Jr. Iditarod as the only four-time champion in February.

As Jr. Iditarod champion, Robinson will have the honor once again of leading the Iditarod Ceremonial Start March 1 in downtown Anchorage, a race she has referenced competing in someday.
