Iditarod Ceremonial start stuns both Alaskans and visitors
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - 4th Avenue in downtown Anchorage was abuzz as crowds gathered to witness the ceremonial start of Iditarod 2025.
Crowds lined 4th Avenue all the way down the route to Sullivan Arena, with Fur Rondy rides and other activities in full swing a couple blocks over. The race drew not only local Alaskans but also tourists and visitors from other states and countries.
“Everything here is fun,” said Rick Gomez, who is visiting with family from California. “Rondy, the whole festival thing we don’t get to partake in as much this time, but it’s my first time doing this and it’s just a blast. We just enjoy it. We’re fortunate to be able to come up and see it, you know, so it’s off the bucket list.”
