ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - More communities in Alaska will have better access to cell phone service as Verizon boosts its connectivity in our state.

The carrier says it has added additional spectrum at 89 cell sites across the state, increasing network capacity by about 30%.

Verizon says this new expansion will benefit customers in the Kenai Peninsula communities of Kenai, Soldotna, Anchor Point, Homer, and Seward; the Matanuska-Susitna communities of Meadow Lake and Denali Park; and the Interior communities of Two Rivers and Pleasant Valley.

“Whether they are a resident, a business, or they’re in a situation like in Alaska, where it’s peak cruise season — making sure that they have what they need, whether it’s to reach public safety, or to phone home, or put some pictures up on social media of their trip,” said Lauren Peterson, Verizon’s senior manager of communications. “So, not only will this benefit our customers in terms of residents and visitors and businesses, but it will also provide additional capacity for public safety as well.”

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Verizon bringing service to Alaska.
