In response, APD deployed specialized teams, including the Special Weapons and Tactics Unit (SWAT), the Technical Support Unit (TSU), the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT), and the Mobile Intervention Team (MIT).

Patrol officers along with APD Special Operations began to search University Lake Park and adjacent trails on foot and utilized drones, casting a wide perimeter and conducting a detailed search for approximately three-and-a-half hours with more than 30 officers.

According to APD, one person self-admitted to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries and is in stable condition.

No arrests have been made.

“Currently, we do not have a suspect in custody, but we are taking precautions to ensure the safety of the area while we follow the evidence,” Deputy Chief Brian Wilson, head of APD Operations, said in a statement.

“Anchorage residents will see an increased police presence in the U-MED District and adjoining trail systems today and through the holiday weekend.”

Officers will be actively patrolling neighborhoods, public spaces and schools in the area. APD is also coordinating with partner law enforcement agencies and security services including the Alaska State Troopers (AST), the University Police and hospital and university security forces.
