South stays hot, Dimond, Wasilla, West also advance in DI State Hockey Tournament
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - The South Anchorage hockey program skated their way to a Cook Inlet Conference Championship last week with wins over the top-ranked West Anchorage Eagles and the defending state champion Chugiak Mustangs, and this week, they carried that momentum into the ASAA First National Cup Division I State Tournament.
Despite the impressive conference playoff run, the Wolverines were handed the #4 seed and a rematch with Chugiak in the first round of the state tournament.
A three-goal third period propelled the Wolverines to a 5-1 victory as they defeated the Mustangs for the second time in five days to end Chugiak’s repeat hopes and advance to the semifinals.
Meanwhile, the sixth-seeded Dimond Lynx held off the Colony Knights on their home ice 3-2 to survive and advance in the tournament, while West Anchorage and Wasilla came away with comfortable wins in the first round.
