ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - When it comes to Division I girls soccer in Alaska, the choice of champion for more than a decade has been either South Anchorage or Dimond.
The two programs have combined to win the last 13 state championships, — with Dimond claiming seven and South winning six — including last year when the Wolverines defeated the Lynx in overtime.
Fast forward 10 months, the rivals met on the pitch at The Dome Wednesday in their first clash of the season. In a back-and-forth affair, the game was decided on a late penalty kick from South freshman Shayla Lee as the Wolverines took the 3-2 victory.
