FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTUU/KTVF) - The Alaska American Heart Association hosted its annual heart walk this Saturday outside of the Carlson Center. The event promotes the importance of heart health and raises money for scientific research.

Alaska American Heart Association Executive Director Kristin George said the goal of the event is to gain fitness and exercise in the outdoors.

“We know that in Alaska, we tend to not be as active as we possibly could be just because of the weather,” George said. “When we get the opportunity to go for walks, let’s take the time, let’s get out, and let’s make that effort.”

Fairbanks Memorial Hospital Registered Nurse Karen Brauser said being active is vital for your heart health.

“It’s also good for the head too,” said Brauser. “We work together with the with what emotionally and strengthening we do physically.”
