APD confirms identity of man shot, killed by officers early Monday
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Anchorage Police have released the name of the man shot and killed by officers early Monday morning in West Anchorage.
Police have confirmed 34-year-old Kristopher K. Handy was the person killed.
According to APD, four officers arrived at a domestic disturbance call around 2:15 a.m. on Bearfoot Drive. Handy was outside holding a long gun when officers arrived. Officers then fired shots at Handy, and at least one of the shots struck Handy in the upper body. He died at the scene.
Police say Handy pointed his gun toward officers, prompting the shooting.
Handy’s family provided a statement following the loss.
“As a family, we grieve the loss of our family member who was killed in an officer involved shooting on May 13th. Kristopher Handy will be deeply missed as a father of 4, brother and son. As a family, we look forward to seeing the officers body camera footage publicly disclosed at the soonest date possible”, the statement read.
