ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - A correction mailer for the Official Election Pamphlet will be mailed out early this week, according to election officials.

Former state Sen. Mia Costello, who is running as a Republican candidate in the Nov. 5 House District 15 race, was mistakenly listed as a Democrat in the index of the Region II Official Election Pamphlet.

The correction has already been made to the digital pamphlet.

The correction mailer will include the other candidates for the same district, according to Carol Beecher, the Director of Alaska’s Division of Elections.

This comes after the Alaska Democratic Party sent a letter to the Division of Elections on Thursday, objecting to a correction to be sent out that does not include all candidates.

“Any postcards or other official communications that fail to provide equal and unbiased coverage to these candidates will undermine the integrity of our electoral process and potentially expose the State to legal action,” the letter stated.

Lindsay Kavanaugh, Executive Director of the Alaska Democratic Party, told Alaska’s News Source they received an immediate response from the Division of Elections.

“The path forward does not inadvertently advantage one candidate over the other and satisfies the Party’s inquiry on the issue,“ Kavanaugh said.

Beecher said that the Kavanaugh’s letter did change the initial correction plan.

“In the rush to get the card out, we were initially only going to address the correction regarding Mia Costello’s party affiliation. Once we received the letter from the Alaska Democratic Party, their point was well taken, and we revised the wording on the postcard to list all HD15 candidates," Beecher said.
