Alaska’s News Source honored with two Regional Murrow Awards
The annual awards recognize work completed in 2023
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Alaska’s News Source was named the best in journalism for two categories by the prestigious Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards.
For work completed in 2023, Alaska’s News Source received Regional Murrow Awards for Overall Excellence and Digital News.
In the category of Overall Excellence, Alaska’s News Source was considered for a collection of reporting from throughout the year. Weaving together a compilation reflective of a daily commitment to Tell Alaska’s Story, coverage included a Presidential visit to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, a deadly landslide in Wrangell, the christening of the USS Ted Stevens, a record-breaking winter storm, and extensive investigative solutions-based journalism on the issue of homelessness in Anchorage and across the country.
For Digital News, the entry highlighted the interactive map for the RoadTrippin’ Alaska series, allowing viewers to join the adventures and explore Alaska’s history, culture, entertainment, food, and more from Utqiagvik to Sitka.
Presented annually by The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA), the recognition is among the most distinguished honors for news organizations working in broadcast and digital platforms. Award recipients “demonstrate the spirit of excellence that Murrow set as a standard for the profession of broadcast and digital journalism,” according to the RTDNA’s website.
Both awards are in the small market television category in Region 1 and are now under consideration for a National Murrow Award.
